The Kings Cross Steelers RFC have the greatest pleasure in announcing the
2008 / 2009 kit is being sponsored by The Tipperary, London's oldest Irish pub.

This year's sponsorship deal was sealed in October 2007.

Steve Rowlands, Landlord of "The Tipp":

"I heard about the Steelers through Neil & Shaun, who invited me to your annual fundraiser at the Two Brewers. After being "woman-handled" by Sandra and seeing how you boys worked together, I immediately knew I wanted to be involved. I am delighted to be associated with Steelers during this important Union Cup season".

Look out for Steve & partner Patricia at the games this season, with their Boxer dog "Lola".

2008 / 2009 Kit

This season's kit returns to our two basic colours of royal blue and emerald green. The home/1st XV kit is predominantly royal with green trim. In the away / 2nd kit, the colours are reversed.

The Tipperary logo is emblazened across the front, Steelers logo on the left breast, RAM logo on the right. The Ruggercub and Union Cup logos are located on the left and right arms respectively, with the Steelers web address across the shoulders.

All shorts this season will be cotton kiwi style in royal blue with royal blue socks.

Delivery is expected in early-mid September.

ABOUT THE TIPPERARY

The Tipperary, a small two-level pub at 66 Fleet Street, first opened on the site in 1605 under the name the Boar's Head. It survived the Great Fire of London in 1666 due to it's brick and stone structure and became an Irish pub around 1700, going on to become and the first pub outside of Ireland to serve draught Guinness.

When you visit the pub, look down at the slate step and you will see the faint word Mooney’s carved into the slate. This step is the original that was installed in the early 17th century when the pub was bought by the Irish brewery chain Mooney & Son. The name was changed after the end of World War 1 as the Irish had sung the song “it’s a long way to Tipperary…’ to boost moral amongst our soldiers. As many of the Irish returned from the war to work on Fleet Street as printers and reporters it was fitting to rename the pub in their honour.

With more than 400 years of history, the Tipperary also has tales of paranormal activity, with the spirit of a monk seen on several occasions in the ground floor bar.
