113 Steelers, making up 4 teams and a supporting crew travelled to Brussels to successfully defend our Union Cup title.

Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.

So it's been a long weekend for the Steelers over on the continent!

Over 100 members of the club crossed the channel to the fine country of Belgium. Spanning four teams and a horde of supporters. Union Cup 2015 welcomed us with open arms, chilled beers, chocolatey waffles and glorious sunshine.

After two days of tournament play our 4 teams came out of it with a set of results to be proud of:

1st Squad: Union Cup Winners, Beating Manchester Village Spartans RUFC in a hard fought final, after taking on the Emerald Warriors and Montpelier earlier in the day, the lads were sore!

2nd Squad: Union Bowl Runner Ups, Narrowly missing out in the bowl final with a 0-7 defeat. It was against what is becoming a grudge match with the Cardiff Lions RFC.

3rd Squad: Played valiantly against tough opposition all tournament, only to be knocked out in the quarter finals by our own 2nd squad. The match watched by many Steelers was a stunning performance and everyone was exceptional on the field.

Mammoths: The duct tape held out until the semi-finals where they helpfully bruised up the Manchester Spartans ahead of the final. They left a trail of bandages and destruction in their wake, and were a force to be reckoned with on the filed.

All in all, a very successful tour for the club and a perfect end to what has been 2 years of non stop rugby since seasons beginning in 2013. Now a much needed 2 months break is in order for members to re-charge, recover and reflect on what has been an epic time for the club.

The KX Steelers are truly riding a wave of success, seeing phenomenal growth in its membership at the development end and the experienced players end. We have seen our 1st XV promoted into the Essex Division 1 league for next season, a new 3 year strategy for the club has been adopted and welcomed by the membership, our home grounds have had seen investments increasing our training space and general facilities, and the feeling within the club has never been so positive.

There has never been such a good time to join the club:

  • Want to play rugby at Essex League One level as an experienced player?
  • Do you simply want to take the sport up and maybe try playing with our development team?
  • Or maybe join us as a supporter to watch our matches and join our socials on the weekends?

The club offers something for everyone, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled on our website and social media to see how you can get involved at one of our upcoming recruitment or welcome events over summer!
