Our Crest - 'Nelly'

Many have asked over the years, "why do your call yourselves Kings Cross Steelers with the mascot of Elephant and Castle?"

Our mascot, affectionately known to us as 'Nelly' was taken from the crest of the London Borough of Camden, in which Kings Cross is located.

The Borough of Camden was formed in 1965 when the Metropolitan Boroughs of St Pancras, Hampstead and Holborn merged.

The 'demi elephant rampant' originates from the crest of the Marquess Camden, later used in the crest of St. Pancras. The holly wreath comes from the crest of Hampstead.

The 'mural crown' is used in many crests as a symbol of civic government.
